10 Bible Virtual Field Trips

Updated: May 19

Have you ever wanted to hop onto a magic school bus so your students can walk where Jesus walked or see Michelangelo's paintings at the Sistine Chapel? Well, most of us don't have the budget to go everywhere we want, but fortunately, with a little imagination, technology, and enthusiasm our students can go any where in the world. Here are ten Bible based virtual tours.

1) The Israel Museum by Google Art Project*- The Israel Museum located in Jerusalem contains everything from Biblical Archeology to Jewish modern art. There's so much to see, you might have to take two trips.

2) Ancient Egypt by the Louvre Museum- Explore the life of the Egyptians under the leadership of the Pharaohs. Help your students imagine the cultural setting of the Hebrews in Exodus and the influence of this powerful nation.

3) Jerusalem by Jerusalem 3D Virtual Tours- Take a guided animated tour of Gethsemane, King David's Tomb, the Western Wall and more. This is an awesome site to help your students visualize the details they read about in the Bible.

4) Israel by Experience Israel- Take your students to Israel and see the sea of Galilee, the Dead sea, and Jerusalem. This virtual tour is beautiful and a great reference for your lessons.

5) The Ancient Near East- by the Virtual World Project- This site provides a close-up view of archeological sites around Israel and Jordan. Visit this site to show your students ancient locations mentioned in Scripture.

6) Destruction of Jerusalem and Babylonian Exile by Bible Lands Museum- Travel back in time and step into the shoes of the Jewish exiles as they leave their home, live in Babylon, and return back to Jerusalem.

7) The National Gallery (London)- A picture is worth a thousand words. Explore historical religious art from Italy, Spain, England, and more.

8) Temple Mount by The Heart of the Nation- This tour is in the Hebrew language. If you don't know Hebrew, you can still share with your students the beautiful panoramic views of the Temple Mount.

9) Ancient Egypt by Nova- Explore the pyramids, temples, tombs and Sphinx. This tour will allow your class to see these awesome ancient sites and provide additional information to help enrich your trip.

10) Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica- Take your students on an epic field trip to these beautiful ornate churches. Dive into church history and the influence the church has had on the world.

Field Trip Tip: Plan ahead to censor art or scenes you don't want your students viewing.

Something to help your students stay on track is a field trip worksheet. The Smithsonian Museum has a free download they encourage teachers to use at any museum around the world.

Happy Travels!
